Even
the Insight's high-compression-ratio gasoline engine uses many advanced
technologies to optimize efficiency and
significantly reduce emissions,
including:
-
Idle
stop turns off the engine when it is not needed,
and restarts it instantly when it is.
-
Optimal combustion
is achieved by precision control of each cylinder's spark timing
and air-fuel ratio
Honda Insight engine
The
Insight's engine was declared winner of the "International
Engine of the Year" award. This award was
judged by a jury of 34 automotive journalists and industry experts,
who evaluated engines from all major manufacturers based on technical
achievement, performance, noise, smoothness, fuel efficiency and emissions.
Honda Insight Hybrid

The Honda Insight was the very first gasoline-electric hybrid sold
in the United States. It was named the most fuel-efficient vehicle in
the two-seater class by the EPA. Furthermore, the Insight is the most
fuel efficient car in America. This baby can go upto 670 miles before a
refill.
Powered with a three cylinder engine, it has a brushless
electric motor located on the crankshaft. While driving uphill, the
electric motor provides additional power; during deceleration or a
downhill drive, the motor acts as a generator and charges the
batteries. As standard procedure, a computer controls how much power
comes from the conventional gasoline engine and how much from the
electric one.
Insight is built with an impressive technology. It combines
various modern fuel saving technologies, advanced materials and a new
engine design.
